Bio
Character Name and Series/Original Character: Ulquiorra Shifar/Bleach
Name in Role Play: Ulquiorra Shifar
Race/Ethnicity: Werehawk/Spanish
Age: Unknown; appears to be late teens/early twenties
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Unknown, and he doesn't seem particularly inclined to experiment.

Appearance: His features are striking in their sheer simplicity: pale skin, horned helmet of bone and trailing black and white garments offset by loose, tumbled dark hair and large, deepset green eyes emphasized by black trails down his cheeks. What he wears does vary, to some extent, although it almost invariably follows the monochromatic scheme and simple grandeur that seems to characterize him. In this form, he appears unusually small and slender, but that apparent frailty conceals an unfathomable strength.

In were form, he most closely resembles the Red-tailed Hawk--his tail feathers are a vivid shade of blood-rust red, although otherwise his plumage is pale as a skeleton's, with subtle gradations of silvery-grey; the markings he displays don't help. The effect is simultaneously ghastly and somehow alluring in such a creature, just like the still-green eyes that appear fiercer in the avian face. His underside is death's-head white with the characteristic band patterns; an unusual and imposing crest crowns his head, making him appear more intimidating; and contributing to this impression is his size and the wickedness of his talons, more akin to that of an eagle than that of a hawk.

His mid-form displays both animal and human characteristics--he's slightly taller physically, but the crest and plumage along his shoulders and down his back harden into bone-like protrusions that he can use as both armor and weapon. He retains his wings--in fact, their expanse increases further to support his humanoid form. Talons are retained on the feet, making airborne assault more practical, although he can get by on the ground as well.

Personality: He carries with him an unbreakable poise and an air of quiet authority that is not easily contradicted or defied, notably because he can easily back it up. Although he almost never raises his voice, Ulquiorra is by no means taciturn--he takes pleasure in mind games, and taunting his enemies (with appropriate economy in words, of course); he enjoys rubbing their face in the schemes he traps them in. His dignity, like his composure, is legendary. He elevates his tasks; nothing and no one degrades him, ever. Untouchable--it is a good word to describe him, both physically and emotionally.

And then, there is his loyalty to Aizen. As notorious as his countenance, it nevertheless is not sufficient to make him act in any way out of order. He obeys Aizen first and always, but as he has shown unerring competence, is given leeway to derive his own pleasure and his own little twists from his missions.

There is a certain blurred line between Ulquiorra's human self and his hawk persona. The raptor in him is fiercely independent, to the core living life by itself, for itself and in and of itself; it trusts no one, in the end, and although it may be tamed to a certain extent, all entanglements are temporary and secondary to the lures of freedom and the vast sky. The iron discipline inherent in Ulquiorra's nature suppresses this to a reasonable level, but sometimes, it is truly difficult to tell just how much the hawk has influenced said nature.

Abilities/Weaponry: In his human form, Ulquiorra is a master swordsman--an uncontested assertion, since he has never yet been known to draw his sword. It is actually debatable what type of sword he wields, since its sheath is never visible. And when he transforms, it seems the sword actually becomes absorbed into his person; this undoubtedly has something to say about the nature of the sword, but since Ulquiorra's were-derived strength and speed easily allow him to kill a man with his bare hands, no one's been known to ask.

Although his affiliation is principally with the Red-tail, Ulquiorra's speed rivals that of the peregrine falcon--there aren't many creatures, airborne or terrestrial, that can catch or stop him when he goes in for the kill. This is rarely done without Aizen's express indication, however, especially since Ulquiorra's rein on his temper is waterproof and airtight.

His tolerance for pain is simply ridiculous. The average were has an unnaturally high threshold, but it is debatable whether Ulquiorra even knows the sensation. This can be a double-edged sword, however.

Finally, his most remarkable ability is that of recording events exactly as experienced and then removing and crushing his eyeball for later playback (the eyeball then grows back instantaneously, the only part of his anatomy able to do so). This, complemented with his wings and the hawk's enhanced vision, makes Ulquiorra an invaluable patrol and reconnaissance force, as well as an extremely handy spy.

Weaknesses: A true were, Ulquiorra can sustain massive injuries; multiple broken bones; without crying out or otherwise showing pain. This becomes a bit of a moot point when every bone in his body is broken (more easily done in hawk form--hollow bones and all--than otherwise); he may keep going until he is fully incapacitated and forced to regenerate, and although he is usually alert enough to prevent this from becoming a hinderance, it does on few occasions leave him completely vulnerable to attack for a few hours (unless back-up and treatment is administered).

It may not be a true weakness, but his wereform is completely mute--there is almost no possibility of communicating with the hawk through anything other than body language, although he has perfected a crude approximation of what the animal would normally sound like using scratching against bark or tapping. He is still, however, almost entirely cut off from other hawks, which only serves to render him more solitary and even less prone to forming attachments.

There is, too, that unspoken arrogance that he wears like a mantle and a coat of arms--a badge of his expectation of nothing but perfection from both himself and others. Ulquiorra does not contend with failure; it will be done right, or it will be rectified immediately. Failures are not worthy of existence or acknowledgment. This inflexibility has cost him in the past, and may yet do so in the future.

Following up on this is his austere form of what passes for social relations. It is debatable whether Ulquiorra even knows any form of interaction other than deceit and self-amusement, cold detached hierarchy and clinical analysis and anything that doesn't require any type of meaningful interaction whatsoever. It is not as much of a disadvantage as certain others' headlong tumble into hostilities with every meeting, but it has had its unfortunate moments.

History: Little to nothing is known about Ulquiorra's early history; whether he came from nobility or the lower-classes, affluence or poverty... It is even uncertain when, exactly, he became a were--the signs can point towards either a very early onset or a fairly recent one. Considering personality and circumstances, it is hardly surprising that Ulquiorra isn't very forthcoming about his past.

He has been following Aizen for some time, however; he came to Allupato to rejoin his lord's side and does not have any overall intentions of leaving it. He is no. 4 of the Espada, most powerful of the Arrancar, and valued by Aizen as a gatherer of information as well as a guardian and military unit. His hawk-side is almost wild, since it is largely his human side that has contact with Aizen and the other Arrancar--whether this is by design or sheer coincidence is unknown.

Currently, he has no apparent mission in Allupato, and is merely exploring and charting the city awaiting his master's orders.
